Aug 11, 2023

Tennessee Wildlife Federation was well represented by 333 athletes that participate in its Tennessee Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) who attended the Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championships in Marengo, Ohio July 4-12.

Record High Participation: 8,500+ Individual Entries

More than 3,000 athletes from 34 different states competed in International Skeet, International Bunker Trap, Sporting Clays, 5-Stand, American Skeet, Doubles Skeet, American Trap, Doubles Trap and Handicap Trap. Participation was a record high with over 8,500 individual entries, resulting in more than 1.6 million targets thrown and shattered by the athletes.

“This competition really showcases the best of the best in clay target shooting from across the country,” said JW Worthen, Director of Programs, Tennessee Wildlife Federation. “The level of competition is at an extremely high level here and hitting just one more target could mean you win it all.”

77 National Titles from Tennessee

Out of the 34 states in attendance, Tennessee had the fourth-highest number of athletes to compete. The 42 Tennessee teams brought home an impressive 77 National Titles, the second-highest amount out of all of the states.

“Not many young men and women get to say they are a National Champion in any sport. There were certainly many proud moments getting to see the Tennessee state flag on the podium so many times. Our teams have done an excellent job putting our state and our program on the map where other states consider us a powerhouse in the shooting sports arena.”

Ashley Tone, Tennessee SCTP Manager
