Triple Crown Wraps with a Rainy Muletown Trap Showdown

May 14, 2025

The Muletown Trap Showdown wrapped up the first-ever Triple Crown Series at the beginning of May, bringing 298 athletes to three locations across Middle Tennessee.

The primary venue for the competition was the Maury County Gun Club, with satellite locations at Harpeth Scholastic Shooting Complex and Montgomery County Shooting Complex. The main event—a 200-target American Trap competition—plus doubles trap and extended yard line trap challenged athletes to stay focused through a rainy and difficult weekend.

Due to weather and time constraints, ties were decided using reverse runs, a method that counts consecutive hits backward from the last target, rather than using traditional shoot-offs.

“It was great to see the Triple Crown finish strong despite the weather,” said Dillon Barnes, Tennessee SCTP manager. “I’m proud of how the athletes performed across all three events, and I’m looking forward to recognizing our Triple Crown winners at the State Championships.”

The Muletown Trap Showdown marked the final leg of the Triple Crown Series, which began in March with the Smashtown Skeet Classic and continued with April’s Bigfoot Blast. Scores from each 200-target main event will be combined to determine overall Triple Crown winners across multiple divisions, to be announced at the State Championships in June.
