The inaugural Smashtown Skeet Classic took center stage at Nashville Gun Club this past weekend, bringing together 190 athletes from 31 teams for a skeet-focused competition.
With American Skeet (200 targets) as the main event and Skeet Doubles (100 targets) as the side event, athletes had a lively weekend in the first leg of the Triple Crown series.
Spring arrived in full force at the Smashtown Skeet Classic.
Saturday’s ideal shooting conditions set the stage for strong performances, while Sunday’s storms added a dramatic twist to the final scores. Lightning prevented traditional shoot-offs, leading to ties being decided using reverse runs—a method where the longest sequence of consecutive hits, counted backward from the last target, determines the winner.

Oaklee Evans, Haywood Young Guns (left) and Morgan Hilliard, McKenzie Shooting Sports (right) tied in Varsity Ladies Double Skeet.
“It was great to see such close competition on the leaderboards. It’ll only add to the excitement as we move through each event in the Triple Crown series,” said Dillon Barnes, Tennessee SCTP manager.
The series challenges athletes across multiple disciplines, with scores from the 200-target main events at the Smashtown Skeet Classic (American Skeet), Bigfoot Blast (Sporting Clays), and Muletown Trap Showdown (American Trap) combined for a total of 600 targets. The top competitors in each category will be recognized as Triple Crown Champions at the State Championships in June.
With Bigfoot Blast scheduled for April 4-6, athletes will soon have an opportunity to build on their performances from Smashtown. The high over all (HOA) winners from this weekend are as follows, and for the full list of winners, click here.
