This February, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with Tennessee Wildlife Federation’s Hunters for the Hungry program to process 2,600 pounds of venison to help feed Tennessee’s hungriest.
Hunters for the Hungry feeds Tennesseans in need by providing hunger relief organizations with venison donated by generous deer hunters. The venison is processed and then provided to local food banks and soup kitchens.
Now that deer season is over, many processors in the area have closed down. In order to get the remaining Hunters for the Hungry donations processed, the program turned to Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
The Henry County Sheriffs have a similar program, Deputies for the Hungry, where they operate a facility on-site that allows them to take harvested deer and process them for Henry County citizens in need.
“Hunters for the Hungry is incredibly grateful to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Thanks to them, 2,600 pounds of venison will be processed and provided to those who need it most,” said Matt Simcox, Hunters for the Hungry program manager.
