Historic Victory for Conservation

On Oct. 1, the U.S. House followed the Senate’s example and approved the America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act. It’s now on the way to be signed into law.

This wouldn’t have been possible without the thousands of engaged conservationists who contacted their legislators and voiced their support of the bill.

Once law, the bipartisan bill will begin to address many long-standing conservation priorities for Tennessee and the nation. To name just a few, it will:

  • Authorize new funds to fight invasive species
  • Develop an interstate action plan for cooperation on chronic wasting disease (CWD) and fund more research
  • Encourage public-private partnerships for promoting fish conservation
  • Reauthorize the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Establishment Act until 2025
  • Reauthorize until 2025 the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA), which increases bird populations and wetland habitat, while also supporting local economies, hunting, fishing, bird watching, family farming, and more
  • Establish a Theodore Roosevelt Genius Prize for reducing human-predator conflict

“The Federation is incredibly grateful to our engaged supporters who helped secure these wins for our wildlife, waters, and wild places. The passage of these historical conservation bills just goes to show how we can make a meaningful impact when we all speak up for the great outdoors,” said Michael Butler, CEO of Tennessee Wildlife Federation.
