Tennessee Wildlife Federation CEO, Michael Butler, traveled to South Pittsburgh to discuss challenges with Asian carp facing Tennessee. Leaders in that community have growing concerns about the presence of the invasive species in the Tennessee River.
Michael shared the Federation’s work on the issue. In a state that generates $1.2 billion dollars of economic impact from fishing that supports nearly 8,000 jobs, this is a fight that the Federation is tackling head on. In 2019, we were able to help secure $14 million in new federal funding to lead the fight against Asian carp nationwide. And we’re in the middle of renewing those funds this fiscal year.
If you happen to catch one or have one jump right in your boat, remember, there are plenty of recipes out there, such as this one from Chef Hank Shaw. Then visit tnwf.org/asiancarp to take action in our war on Asian carp.
